Gerawan Farming is family owned and operated by Ray, Mike and Dan Gerawan. Most shippers sell fruit from dozens of different growers, each with their own ideas, practices and standards when it comes to quality. At Gerawan Farming each piece of our fruit is grown, nurtured, harvested and handled according to strict guidelines for quality, color, flavor, texture and other characteristics. One grower, one standard, for consistent quality. Gerawan Farming packs only fruit grown in its own orchards, giving the company precise control over every aspect of quality. Every box of fruit comes from trees Gerawan planted, making Gerawan’s Prima brand known around the world for its quality and consistency. Gerawan packs up to 100,000 boxes a day of premium quality fruit, all processed according to meticulous quality control protocols. To cut costs, most growers strip harvest their orchards, picking each tree just 2 or 3 times during the season. Gerawan picks orchards 8 to 10 times per season, because harvesting more often results in sweeter, juicer fruit. When stone fruits are at their peak of ripeness and maturity, they are very delicate — far too fragile to be dumped into the 1,000-pound bulk bins many growers use. This is where the vast majority of bruising and blemishing occurs. To preserve its premium quality, Prima fruit never touches a bin. Instead, it is transported in the original protective buckets into which the fruit is harvested. Each piece of fruit is individually evaluated by experienced packers who stand by the quality of every box by affixing their photo to it.
